Default Tire noise.....is it the oem Bridgstones or the car?

This one is for you experienced TT owners or anyone who has changed out the oem Potenza RE040 Bridgestone's to a different rubber. Are these tires particularly noisy or is it just the characteristics of the car? I've checked the tire pressure so I know that's not the problem. Is it just me or are the RE040's a noisy tire.

Default it is not the car . . .

the RE-040's are pieces of crap rubber donuts. Change them to anything else and keep the pressures set correctly and the tires will not make noises in turns unless the car is being pushed hard.

Default I am on my third set of tire in 22000 miles. I agree with what Larry said about the 040's...

and would add that the "just about" anything else is the Potenza RE730. Too many people I know of had the same noise prob I had. A lot worse than the 040 noise prob. ZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzz down the road.

350 miles on Kumho ES 712's and they are very quiet and very good in the rain and almost as grippy as the 730's.

Default umm . . .NO, the "just about anything else is NOT the RE730's"!

I can give an answer for myself thank you very much Ivan!

I have driven on much more than the RE040's and RE730's! Maybe that is all you have driven on, but I have not.

I was not about to list every tire I have driven on that was installed on a TT.

If your 730's were noisy does NOT mean ALL 730's were noisy. Maybe if you adjusted the tire pressures they would not be noisy. I drove mine for 18,500 with ZERO noise issues with them.

Default I only have 6,000 miles on them, but have had no problems with the 040s. Then again, I have ...

a roadster, so maybe I just don't notice any excessive tire noise.

Default Ok, Larry you need a nap. Far be it from me to ever speak for you, you do that well enough.

Glad your RE730's were quiet. LOTS of people here at Audiworld have had noise problems with them. LOTS. Eddie@TireRack no longer recommends them. Bridgestone is giving back money on them for the noise issue, not as a one time customer satisfaction issue, but a memo sent to tire dealers.

But I do appreciate the insult about my not checking my tire pressures. Perhaps if you had some constructive thoughts regarding tire pressure you could have chimed in with them when I was asking about this problem months ago.

Just stay off my posts and I'll stay off yours. We obviously cannot play well in the sandbox together.

Default I have 22,000 miles on my OEM 040's (still lots of tread) and just recently

have noticed a pronounced humming at all speeds. Time for a "real" set of tires, I guess.
