Tire pressure questions.
Why different pressures on our cars front and rear? In terms of performance, what if they were the same all around? What would happen?
What can you expect if you reduce the pressure or for that matter increase it?
Take your time, I'm waiting for the war to go off. It should be any day now. Have you noticed CNN is building up to the war with programming that's right out of pre game-SuperBowl hype bits ?

To increase oversteer:
- Greater tire pressure in front vs. back
To increase understeer:
- Greater tire pressure in back vs. front
- Greater tire pressure in front vs. back
To increase understeer:
- Greater tire pressure in back vs. front

I know that is conventional wisdom on RWD cars but I'm not sure it is true for 4WD. I did an
autocross this weekend and started w/ higher pressure in front to help the rear end rotate. I was talking w/ a very experienced national level autocrosser who told me that he had done a few events in a buddy's WRX and he found that higher REAR pressure helped the rear come around. I tried that and did my fastest time. I can't explain it but it seems to work.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert... but a little logic as to why this might be true would be that
The less pressure in a tire, the more of that tire makes contact with the pavement laterally (side to side)... and vice versa. Therefore, maybe when a tire has a bit lower pressure in it, more of the tire is contacting the pavement and not allowing the back end to come around as easily... the opposite would be a tire w/ more pressure would have less surface area contact the pavement causing the rear to come around a bit more easily... but this may just all be a bunch of babble.

backwards...
With the TT at least, part of the reason we run with lower pressure in the back is to dial in understeer. As you increase tire pressure for the rear tires you will get more neutral handling.

Ahhh!
I equalized the front and rear pressures and I liked the feel. It is very neutral, indeed. Almost like it's about to spin on its polar moment of inertia.

Yep, that will do it...
I'm not so sure that I understand the why but I do know that it works and its surprising that such a seemingly small change can make such a difference.
