Default Is this the tool for gearbox oil drain plug?

Hello,

I plan to change the gear oil in my 2002 Quatro Coup e to MTL90. I tried this morning to do the job but could not open the oil drain plug nor could I found the correct socket/key at my local auto part store.

What tool are people in the list using to open the gearbox oil plug? A Google search found this one http://www.autopart.com/TOOLS/TOOLSMAIN/tool/T_2039.htm (see also the same link at the end of this message), it this a correct tool?

Thanks,

Zapta<ul><li><a href="http://www.autopart.com/TOOLS/TOOLSMAIN/tool/T_2039.htm">VW/AUDI DRAIN PLUG WRENCH</a></li></ul>

mine takes a 17mm hex bit, not an XZN ("triple-square").<ul><li><a href="http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000166968/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000166968/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000166968">Like this.</a></li></ul>

Default This would not fit in my car

The drain plugs in my car have 12 points (though an hex of the right size would still fit) but in the middle they have a bump that require a matching hole in the center of the key. This may be an anti tempering measure.

This is for the FWD transmission, or Quattro rear differential, or what?

Default My '01 225 Transmission uses a 14 mm hex, the Bevel Box is a 10 mm Allen. I have not

looked at the Haldex or the Rear Differential. Which one of these boxes of gears are you calling a "gearbox"? Guess it doesn't really matter, though, as it seems they changed different plugs in different years, so mine and yours don't appear to be the same anyway.
