TT owner needs some help!!

I have been in contact with a TT owner who lives in Cape Town, South Africa. I had helped him in the past with some minor problems. He has now had a major problem and is asking for my help. He was driving his TT and it caught on fire and burnt to the ground. I returned a reply telling him of some of the problems some of our forum members have had with fuel leaks. After a week or so he has determined that this may have been the problem. He has contacted Audi of his problem and they have replied that there has been no other reports of this happening. He has asked me to send any information about fuel leaks that I can find. I have done a search and sent as much information to him as I could. He has tried to access the forum, but can not do so for some reason. If anyone would like to help and send him any information you can find, I'm sure he would be very greatful, including myself.

Please send any information to: frank.stt@icon.co.za

Frank seems to be a very nice person looking for some help with his problem.

Thanks to any forum members that can send him some information.

Thanks again, Brad Bryan INTT

Hmmm... I'd say that this does qualify as a "major problem"

Maybe he had installed that anti-carjacking device with the flamethrowers....

If that is Audi's attitude, have him tow it to the dealer and bring it in for warranty work...

get the whole thing replaced. Sounds like something Audi would want to take care of.

Nope, can't say I've heard of any TT's spontaneously burning to the ground like that. Sounds like..

an insurance issue. (Assumming of course that he had insurance or that it is even available).
Don't think you're going to find Audi at fault here but you never know.

You mean this mod?

If I wanted to do that mod, would I also need the flame decals on the sides? Or do they just add hp?

JeremyTT 11-19-2002 09:22 AM

The flame decals are optional. I believe that they are +16hp on this application (more ->)

although they are only +8hp on a TT, because they really add about +2hp per cylindar.

Now, if they were larger flames, the flame:HP:Cylindar ratio would change.

And for really large flames, one must consider the ratio of per-cylindar displacement to flame surface area.

Have never heard of a TT leaking fuel . . .

unless the dealer had previously replaced the Fuel Sending Units(FSU), then it is the mechanic that has not sealed the tank properly and you get a fuel vapor issue and some spilling of fuel. Don't recall ever hearing of a factory problem like this.

If his car is still covered by the 12month/12,000 mile warranty, he should have the car towed to the dealer and fight with Audi.

Speaking of fuel, Shaun is paging you...

Thanks... I think you can help him more than I can!
