Default TT platform and sources for genuine cheap parts

the TT shares its platform (floor pan etc) with several cars in the VW group
VW Golf Audi A3 Seat Cordoba and Skoda Octavia
yep a Skoda so think how much cheaper the parts will be if you buy them from a Skoda Dealer

Default Same platform / different parts

I think I read somewhere that although the platforms are the same, only about 20% of the parts are common. The common platform allows VW to keep its fixed costs way down (same assembly line / can use the same machinery to make the frames without major changes), but the parts used on a TT are going to be engineered to have higher tolerances, etc. By the way, the same platform combined with the high volumes on the engine block is how Audi can hit the TT price point while something like an SLK goes for 10+ grand more.
