TT water pump failure-Blown engine
Has anyone had any problems with TT engine mechanicals? I saw one person had a failed fuel pump. A friend of mine had his water pump fail in such a way that it pumped all of the coolant out of the engine and cooked the engine. Warranty expired in January and the dealership wants $10k to put a new engine in it. If anyone has experience pushing the warranty envelope, im interested, otherwise, if anyone is interested in a 30k mile TT coupe for $13k (what he owes on it) let me know.

Get a second opinion.
The idea that this dealer will not stand behind a car with such low mileage is a red flag. Sounds like it could be timing belt failure which was fairly common in the early 1.8t engines. This is supposedly on a 100k mile replacement schedule. You may be able to press Audi for some of the replacement cost if thats the case. Worst case, a good shop would charge less than 5k for a replacement engine

Re: TT water pump failure-Blown engine
I pushed the warranty envelope on my 97 A4 1.8. My timing belt went out at 46K miles 3 years into ownership. I was under the alloted 4 year warranty window but over the mileage 40k. On top of that Audi redisgned the tensioner on the 1.8t in 1998 which led me to believe Audi new something wasn't too kosher with the 97 1.8t tensioner. To make a long story short AOA decided to split the cost of the parts with me and didnt charge me labor. I bent a crap load of valves etc.etc. and it cost me very little out of pocket to get it fixed.

the plastic impeller on the oem water pump sucks
mine blew a few months back too. i can get you a part # for the water pump i used if you want, has a stainless impeller (and keeps my engine temps slightly south of the meridian).
