Default TTSchwing et. all: Failing MAF's are too common, have you heard about a TSB re: them>>

My family runs a repair shop, and when I was telling my brother about the fact that my ESP light and CEL came on and that it points to the MAF, he suggested devaning was the cause, but it was fine for weeks after I did that. Then he mentioned there was a TSB suggesting the silicone in tire dressings was causing MAF failures. Anyone heard of it? I did use silicone adhesive to attach the sleve to the TTDA to fit my 3.2, I hope that didn't cause the issues. I guess I'll try cleaning the sensor tonight.

Default Well....silicone is no good...>

For O2 sensors I know that, which is why I don't recommend lubricating the filter flange with a silicone based product. Never heard of that TSB wording, but on 1.8's at least, the MAF warranty has been extended to 70K and 7 years. Dunno if that applies to a 3.2. On the devaning, as you increase flow, you increase the required output of the MAF....Marginally, but sometimes enough to throw an already weak MAF over the edge. Try cleaning and see what happens...:-)

Default So basically I just spray it with contact cleaner, and let it dry?

I'm sorry, I know it's been asked before... You da man steve! I did save the vanes incase needed, but it feels so much better without that I hope I don't have to put it in!

Default That may or may not bring it back...

Make sure you spray the inner sensor plate which can be seen through the front air inlet in the sensor..

Default Get the MAF for your car. Part number is on it or simply ask the dealer.......

while lots of people have had luck with other MAF's working - if you can get the right maf for your car from the dealer as an exchange (has an X) after the correct part number - just do it.

Default As can be seen in this autopsy photo...

You want to clean the "side" of the sensor area, not the leading or trailing edge. Try to get the cleaner stream in at an angle from the side to make sure you agitate the sensing face of the MAF (the small "copper" colored patch to the far right in the photo).

More autopsy photos

Default Damn! I'll have to quit pulling my MAF out and rubbing it all over my tires!

And I so enjoyed doing that, too. Especially the "rears". :&gt
