Default Turbo question

A friend of mine was telling me that if you own a car with a turbo, then anytime you go out and do any highway driving (60-70 mph), then before you turn off the ignition, you need to let the car idle for 30 seconds or you can damage your turbo.

Has anyone here heard anything like this and is it something I should pay attention to?

Thx.

Not with a TT - the pump stays on for like 5 minutes after car is off. You can hear it....

Default Your car has a cool down pump..>>

That circulates coolant through the turbo after shutdown.....It's still a good idea to idle a minute or three after hard driving though...

How would you define driving hard? Track day?

Default Tubo temps drop pretty rapidly when not on boost..>>>

By the time you're back to the pits you'd be OK. I wouldn't do a few hot laps and shut down immiediately though...

Default But that's coolant ONLY right?

I heard that's why you need a turbo timer which actually keeps the engine running so that engine oil would still circulate. Yes coolant can cool the turbo down, but imagine hot oil cooking in that little oil feed tube inside the turbo after the car has been shut off.

Am I right??

I agree with you and that is why I have a turbo timer.
