Is owning a Vag Tool worth it? I don't know anyone that has one and the stealership is charging $70.00 for each code I want to change! Can a novice work this tool? Your input on this will be appreciated !

Default At that rate, yes it is.

See if there are other Audi/VW folks in your area (Audi club, TT get-together, etc) that could show you how to use VAG-COM...then hopefully you can decide if you want to buy it.

Still, I'm guessing that you won't find it difficult to use. Just find out what to log or look for.

I just noticed the HEX-USB option today on Ross-Tech's order form.

Oh, here's a list of VAG-COM owners who are willing to share:

Default Another low-cost alternative is to get ProDiag for a Palm.

ProDiag is fully VAG-1552 compatible and basically works with your car the same way that the Ross-Tech product does except it runs on a Palm PDA device and not a bulky laptop or having a desktop PC dedicated to your garage! It makes for very portable and convenient logging of engine information while underway! Driving around with a laptop on the passenger seat or having to dedicate a PC with a long cable to your garage isn't the most practical especially for us do-it-yourselfers which is why I went this route. ProDiag is a great product for any VW or Audi owner. Check it out at the link below.

Shade Tree Software

Default novice can easily use vag-com, the web site has lots...

of useful info, and will read codes , but may not get you the explanation. You may need the bentley for that, so you should also figure the cost of a bentley repair manual, add another (i think) $70 for that. but i still think it's well worth the money
