Default What is a cycle?

Disconnected battery to do some work, reconnected the battery and have to do all the normal stuff to reset in the future, Radio as an example, Check engine light is on and I cancelled it. What amount of what specific driving starting stopping opening closing reverse driving do I need to DO to have all computers reset? PLEASE!

Hi folks, a lot of readers and no answers. This is an issue for me as a user here. I read too many no response just read BY OTHERS. I do not think that we are helping as we COULD. I asked a guru for VW and got a SOURCE. Of course the State of California started OBDII. Smog did have to be controlled. This was the response by the State to control smog. https://www.smogtips.com is the link initially. https://smogtips.com/OnlineForumQues...Monitors-READY. This is for MK1. My hope is that this helps everyone.

You should connect to your ODB2 port and read the codes, You can also reset them without doing the stupid battery thing.

Codes were cleared, and reset.... Doing the driving according to the link I offered above is not PRACTICAL and possibly not legal. Sorry not a millionaire WITH a race track and you cannot drive 57 MPH (step 3 ) at the mall parking lot. Is there a computer program that does this cycle?

A different source offers, start from a cold start, outside and radiator temperature which our cars monitor must be within 11 Degees F, start the car
let it idle for 15 minutes, drive for seven minutes GRADUALLY increasing to 57 MPH for 3 minutes
WITHOUT touching the brakes coast back to 45 MPH for 3 minutes
increase GRADUALLY up to 55 MPH
This SHOULD reset the "ready" SEGMENT OF THE ON BOARD MONITERING SYSTEM
A comment later stated that this could take several times doing the procedure depending on your car, this was not specific to MK1

Readiness typically sets in 100 miles or so on mine. Not sure if there is a way to hurry it.

The second source for the test to reset the "ready status" seemed to work. I reset the car with an OBDII scanner at lunch. When I finished at work, I drove as closely as I could to the second recommendation for a reset procedure as I could. The check engine symbol stayed dark so far. I will do it again tomorrow. I did find where someone before me was really heavy handed with the electrical connection to the sensor itself. I used electrical tape to hold the connector to the sensor. That may have been the issue all along. The test is in progress. Reports to follow here In time. Hope I helped!

Check engine light again, lean bank 1 still, new air filter tomorrow The one in there now seems clean but no longer white new, gasket is solid and no tears in the paper and the seams of the sections seem good.. I removed it at the shop and shot compressed air over and thru the filter element. I expected more compressed air to pass thru the paper element against my nitrile gloved hand
