What DIN size is our stock head unit?
 

The RIO Car is "E" (7.2" x 2")... so do I need a DIN adapter? I would go measure, but the car is at the shop for oil change.

Also, is there a wiring harness for our stock stereo plug (so I don't have to splice directly into the existing one, incase I want to but the stock back). The RIO Car comes with it's own harness to "break out" the wires, so I can connect individually.

I LOVE MINE! ISN'T IT SO COOL?!?!!? I already upload 1gb of songs, 19GB left :P

Did I read there website correctly that you can use this to upload MP3s and music off your own Music CDs? Hope so as this is the main interest I have in the unit.

Then I could upload lots n lots of music CDs and have a nice display telling my what I'm listening to etc - would be a lot of fun and would be so much easier on road trips (ie 10hrs to TT-West!)

You can, right now, "rip" any CD into MP3 that you own. No problem there, there is plenty of software out there that will do it for you.

This little gem lets you upload any MP3 (no matter how you..umm.. arrived upon it) into it. It lets you categorize them and setup playlists with it's software. So, you have a whole crapload of music at your fingertips.

Did you install it yet? If so, how did you connect it? I am assuming to the bose amp.

Do we need a DIN mounting bracket to adapt it to the slot? I gotta go pickup the car and then I will know.

the stock headunit is NOT DIN. DIN is a standard sizing and the stock radio is larger.
 

You need an adapter that has to be custom fabricated.

The inside opening is to a DIN std., the face-plate dimensions are not
 

The dimensions of the opening are 8 5/8" x 2 5/16" (220 mm x 58.5 mm), with a corner radius of 1/8" (15mm)

That might be true for 2001, but my 2000 is the same front to back

Here's a shot of my radio slot. You can fairly easliy see the main opening, and the recessed "flanged" area to the right here. This is a 2001 - Build week 18.

but I don't recall it having a stepped frame to it. Realize this is almost 2 years since I saw the thing! lol :)
