Default What does a "TUNE UP" consist of?

Ive asked a few questions before and this is what I will be doing in a few hundred miles.

Oil change (Most likely Mobil1 0w40 again with Mobil1 Oil filter)

Haldex (with the kit from ECS)

Tranny fluid (MT-90)

What else is needed.. Ive been seeing more than normal smoke from the exhaust... Quite possible the change in weather but was told I might need a "tune-up" by some friends who know nothing about european cars. I dont know much which is why I am here. Thanks in advance for the help

Default I'm getting a "tune up" as well...

and Sal my mechanic on Long Island gave me a basic run down. There are probably other things since he was just casually listing, but on top of the things you already mentioned are new spark plugs, air and fresh air filters, and Haldex filter (but that probably goes along with your Haldex kit).

Default I don't have enough experience to help you more...

sorry! :\

I am on this forum daily but rarely post because I am still a shy new owner of an '01, but I just wanted to say I love your car and I'm looking forward to your OSIR spoiler and black rings because that's what I am looking to do soon as well. I also used to live in Barrington, where in IL are you?

Default Traditionally a tune up consists of >>>

Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, carb adjustments.

In other words on this car a "tune up" is just spark plugs depending on your miles.

Default As Hans mentioned it depends on your mileage

Oil and oil filter should be changed every 10K miles (at least).
Air filter, cabin filter, Haldex fluid and filter, every 20K.
Spark plugs every 40K.
Timing belt (and associated parts) every 60K.
Brake fluid, every 2 years.

I think those are the major items. Lube up your hinges and door locks, rotate your tires, check brake pads, etc. every so often.

Default i would also add: change the fuel filter every 40k...>>>>

but here is a thought....unless you have owned the car since new, you have really no way of knowing what has or has not been done (unless there were detailed service records).....might just bit the bullet and get the car on track....the owners manual is a great place to start as what needs to be done...and if you perform the service based on severe usage, you would pretty much cover it...

Just a thought...
