Default What weight motor oil does the owner's manual say to use? ...

I need to stop tomorrow and pick some up, and I don't have the manual with me. I know dealer does it for free but I don't want to wait the 10K to be covered. Call me old school, but I just don't like the idea of waiting that long. Any info is appreciated.

That's what many of us use in the Mobil 1 flavor.

Yes, it's a synthetic. Do a search on Mobil 1 and you'll find plenty of info here.

Default So, what if I switch to sythetic and the dealer doesn't use it . . .

what will that do to my car? In other words, once you start using sythetic you can't go back? or is all 5W30 synthetic - i'm unsure.

Default Many of us purchase our own Mobil 1and give it to the service tech to use during service visits.

Just make sure you tell the dealer to mark it on your service ticket so that the service tech knows to use your oil.

Some dealers will supply it for you, but there is usually an additional charge for it. For the most part, it is cheaper for you to provide your own. Check places like Wal-Mart for the Mobil 1 because they occasionally have 5 quart containers on sale for less than 5 individual quart containers.

I'm not sure what it will do for your car. I'm pretty sure you can alternate between synthetic and regular oil without any problems. No, all 5W30 is not synthetic.

People here who are "in the know" recommend and use Mobil 1 so that's why I use it.

Default You can switch and you can go back....Mixing is not a good thing generally speaking

I buy mine at Costco for about 21 bucks for 6 quarts. I give the dealer five and ask that the .2 residual be left with me. This helps ensure that the level is correct and every 4 changes I just give them the .8 )
I change my oil every 5K so I will eventually have to pay them for the work. OR give Brad (GoKart3) some micros and a spiderman antenna ball. I haven't decided yet )
