While we are talking boost gauges, psi and vacuum....I have some questions..
Larry, I know you said you have seen a max of 18-19psi of boost with your chip (GIAC right?).
I recently have seen spikes up to 22-23 psi but only for a short time. It seemed to be coincidal with the temperature being cooler. Wonder if there is any correlation?
Also, I have noticed that these *spikes* up to 22-23psi are only in 4th and 5th gear, I cant get that much boost in any gear below 4th. I am guessing the engine is torque sensitive and allows more boost in higher gears... Make sense?
Has any one else noticed more boost in higher gears?

I am only spiking at 19 with my giac chipped 225
I wonder if my chip got flashed back to oem settings. Also I have to admit I never noticed much of a difference with the chip like I did with my A4 even on the first day. I might have to swap chips out with someone else and give it a try. Larry since I can't make it tomorrow do you want to borrow my car and try a few runs.

I don't have a chip yet, but I can relate to what you are seeing. Anything below 4th or 5th gear I run out of RPM before I reach max boost. In 3rd I might only see about 7 or 8 lbs. Only in 4th and 5th gear do I reach 11 lb. From what I've seen it depends on the RPM that you shift at. The sooner you shift the more boost you will see in the next gear. I see more boost shifting at 4200 than I do at 5200. Does this make any sence to you? The more load I put on the motor, the higher the boost. Since I installed my boost gauge, I have been shifting earlier.

I am with you on your observations......My thoughts are that ......
because of the load and length in the gear, that it allows full boost...
1st and 2nd gears are over to quickly to get full boost.

What are?
I know you and Larry are chipped, but what are you guys shifting at? For me I've found that 4200 seems to work the best for an overall average. Might even drop it down to about 3800 in 1st and 2nd.

Just a theory.....
If the volumetric sizing of your IC piping (external/and internal) is greater than the volumetric sizing of the piping of the stock IC, perhaps the lack in pressure in the shorter gears is related to the increased pressure charge time it would take the small K03 to fill the bigger volumes of the FMIC piping. In the taller gears, the turbo would have more time to spool up to a higher psi. $.02 probably worth nothing.
