Default Who here has an Audi/Votex roof rack system>>

they'd be willing to part with? For the TT, of course.

Also, who has tried the Thule rack system (Thule #757) for the TT? If it clamps on like I think it does, I am not so sure it's a good idea.

Looking for a way to carry this other than removing both wheels and sticking it in the back:

Default looks like you have it all wrong...the TT isn't suppose to go on the bike seat...

I've seen a few around. there was one on eBay recently...$150 with buy now price...with a fork mounted bike rack.

don't get the clamp on system...the fork mount is the safest.

Default Sorry, I meant the Thule #757 racks (not bike mount)>>

they look like they clamp on the same as most of their systems:

Which seems like a bad idea with the TT's frameless windows.

Yes, definitely fork-mount. Those both-wheels-on systems scare me.

Default The Audi Racks are about the coolest set up you can get.

In my opinion the thule racks would be a mistake. Just think of the fact that Audi put in inserts in the roof to receive the racks. For me that was enough to rule out the Thules.

When I went to buy the Audi racks they were not producing any and used sets were few and far between. I ended up buying from a guy all the way across the pond. I beleive you can find them quite readily in the States now.

Default I agree. If you don't mind my asking>>

how much did you give in US$ for them? I can't find any on eBay right now, and last time I checked, I saw the auctions going pretty damn high. I just sent an email to an acquaintance in Germany who sells new & used Audi parts to see if he can scrounge up a used set.

Default I'm in same boat (not happy with thule) and would like the OEM rack...

Let me know if your buddy across the "pond" can come up with any?

Default I have the OEM roof rack, but the quality is very poor IMO.

I mean it looks great, but the hinges on three of the four lockable tower cover "doors" have broken thus they are loose. The rack is still functional and I can still lock the covers on, it's just annoying that these broke so easily for such an expensive rack system and they do flutter just a bit in the wind. I have some plans for a DIY/machine shop fix, just have not had time.

I also have two Audi/VW fork mount holders and they also look nice, but they creak like crazy as they sway with with bikes mounted, sepcially around turns or on bumpy roads. While I know that the bikes are NOT going to fall off, it's not confidence boosting at 75 MPH!

To be honest, if I am riding alone, I put my road or mtn bike around inside the car with the rear seats down, both wheels off and protected with some towels and a blanket. I only use the roof rack for when I have two bikes, skis or my kayak.

Default my friend with an allroad has his bike clamp fail and when he stopped for a traffic light,

his bike rotated on his front tire and the rest fell on his hood. few scratches, but was an eyeopener.

Default Thanks for the input>>

unfortunately it's the only real choice.

I've managed to fit my road bike with rear wheel still mounted, in the back, with the rear seats folded down, and the front passenger seat pushed forward. So it's not so bad. I just hate taking the rear wheel off, especially when I'm trying to ride at lunchtime and time is of the essence.

My problem is, like you, for days I'm not riding alone. I wish I had my Subaru wagon back.

Have it. Noisy even w/ the fairing. Would look for something else that doesn't affect window.
