Default x-chip problems... caught on Vag

While vagging the BOV I decided to check up on ignition timing while doing a highway run.. As I was getting on the highway in 4th gear, I went wide open throttle, and after shifting into 5th at 5800rpms boost dropped to 10psi.. The green line is engine speed plotted against time, light blue is ignition timing, while yellow, pink, dark blue, and purple are ignition timing retardation.. Im thinking about installing a boost controller BUT before I do that I need to find out exactly why boost is dropping.. If its because I was spiking too high then fine, BUT I I don't think that is the cause of me loosing boost.. Tonight Im going to do a few vag runs one with boost vs ignition timing, and I will also check up on the knock sensors.. : / Hopefully something good will come out of these vag runs..

Default Re: x-chip problems... caught on Vag

i too was getting this. both from blatant *** dyno and VAG. i'd rip thru one gear and into another and boost would fade. funny thing was, i had a stock N75. we decided to replace it with my friends and it went away. so i bought a new factory valve. i also played with the angle in which the valve sat to get rid of the tight bend of the vacuum line at the bottom of the valve. what ever it was, it ended my problems. you might at least try the angle thing. it's a 2min. adjustment. but the fact that the car is hitting boost faster than the valve could handle, needed to be looked at. let me guess, you're showing max VAG levels, 1.5bar. i was.but everything is cool now. well it was until i added a FMIC, but that will be addressed next week.

Default I was thinking about doing this or an EBC, BUT

I want to know exactly why my car is pulling back boost before that.. If the timing correction has something to do with it, then I would like to know exactly why timing is getting retarded.. I like the idea behind the MBC, I like how you can control boost and control wastegate creep but like I said, before I add anything else I want to solve the problem dealing with timing.. Odds are its this POS x-chip.. If the ECU is setup so that timing will get pulled back when boost spikes too high, then it might just be a spike in boost.. Im going up on sunday to meet someone with an APR chip, and Im going to try the chip in my car.. Hopefully all goes well..

Default I'm getting my xchip installed next week..

I got it sitting next to me, i will install the mbc and also try my ecs race vavle and 2 other vw valves to see which works best. I also have a vagcom so i will plot all data for everyone to see. Ill let yall know how my xchip works out..

If anything i might just install some voltage clamps(checkvalves) and add a lil fuel and check a/f with the vag

Default AT LEAST I AM NOT LOOSING MY MIND!!!!!!

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME THING GOING ON!!!!!!! Let me fill you in on what I did to make it happen less often. I know that it sounds weird but I took the ESP off...and blamo no more problems. Everyone (that sold me the chip) has told me that it is a mechanical problem not a chip problem..... The X-chip is once again getting bad press..... I really need to get a different chip!
I also own a 2002 225TT.

You should be okay, the problems seem to be limited to the 225TT, especially FMIC

Default That makes sense, I had the non-FMIC previously also, and it did have problems too.

We should all probably just get new chips. There is no reason we should have to purchase $500.00 boost controllers or make use of alternative "band-aids" to make our cars perform the way that a manufacturer advertises. I could understand if it offered minimal gains of 5 - 10bhp, but in this case, our 225bhp TTs are putting down about 170bhp (in certain situations) with the addition of this chip. I doubt any of us expected to lose 50bhp over stock. I know that I didn't.
