XP question............ which mp3 decoder?
InterVideo Inc.
Ravisent
These three sources are listed as engines for decoding and encoding mp3 files with windows XP... is one better than the other?
Thanks for your help folks...
I've been told that CD-EX is probably a better program so next time I have to rip a CD, I'm going to give that a shot. I think you can use different encoders with it, but it comes with LAME which is supposed to be one of the best.
AudioCatalyst is definitely very user friendly, but CD-EX is free. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one.
AudioCatalyst will rip the CD tracks to wav files. When it's done with each track, it encodes the wav file into an mp3. When it's done with the mp3, it starts ripping the next track. During the ripping process, your CD drive is going at 100% and the CPU is going at 0%. During the encoding proces, the CD drive is at 0% and the CPU is at 100%.
Well, CDex does this much more efficiently, so it gets it don't in a fraction of the time (about 1/2 the time for me.) CDex allows you to rip and encode simultaneously. With my fast CD drive (62x TrueX) I'm able to rip and encode a 6 minute track in a little over a minute. With AudioCatalyst, this takes about 1 minute to rip and 1 minute to encode.
I can't tell any difference in the audio quality at 192kbps, so it's just free speed.
