Default Is your speedometer accurate? Are the speedometer and tachometer sychronized?

My speedometer is out by about 8-10 mph at 80. And it gets worse the faster I go. (I've tested this with mile markers on the highway.) I know this has been discussed here before, but I haven't been able to get the dealer to acknowledge that this is a problem. Recently I was thinking that you should be able to figure out how fast you are going based on the engine speed. I thought I remember seeing a pic a long time ago of someone's gauge cluster at 80 mph, and the tach showed 3500 rpms. (I was assuming 6th gear.)

Look at the pic above. Does anyone know what speed your speedometer reads at exactly 3500 rpms (in 6th gear)? Also, is is possible that a tach could be inaccurate?

Default Mine shows just over 80mph at just under 3500 RPM.

I get either a little under 90 on 3.5K and a little above 3.5k on 90

I think that only works with the 5 speed.

Default My question is this. Where does the Cluster Computer get its speed from?

They always seem to be slightly different. At least on my car.

Default Hmm... so maybe I'm not as far out as I thought.

This will be a good "rolling" poll for the TT East convoy. We can see what the variance is in each of our speedometers at certain speeds.

Default don't know how they are calibrated but installation of pointers can create variation in readings

When reassembling my cluster after installing white face gauges I had to be careful to get pointers back in reasonable locations

You may well be within specification at + 10% at 80mph

a short time ago Car and Driver had an article about speedometer specs and DOT requirements

There are places to go to get your speedo checked.

So is it adjustable then? I swear mine is out by 10% or more (based on mile markers). It bothers me
