2012 TTS 21k miles - Extended Warranty worth it?
Hi All, I just picked up this near mint 2012 TTS Presitge w/21k mi. last week in Atlanta, drove back to NY and I'm loving it. The Audi dealer offered an extended warranty underwritten by Fidelity which I declined because of all the horror stories I read about denied claims and poor customer service 6 yr/60k $2700. I was just quoted another policy from a local Audi dealer: "The Audi Pure Protection Warranty is backed by Safco and is overseen by VWOA" 5 yr/50k $3700. I can't find too much on the net about this warranty, does anyone have any insight on this company or opinions on extended warranties in general?
Thanks and have a great day!

Is this a CPO? If so, then wait until the CPO expires before buying an extended warranty. Got my 2011 TT roadster in 2013 as a CPO. It has been trouble free except the top flap motors (same as the TTS) both had to be replaced due to sensor errors that effected top performance. This is a common problem with Mk 2 roadsters. One was replaced in 2015 and the other side was replace last Fall. For me, it just caused an error light to come on if I had the top down for about 8 hours or more. Cycling the top solved the problem. However, some folks have had issues whereby the top does not work at all. The problem is that grease gets on the sensor and is a DIY to clean it if you are mechanically inclined. Mine were replaced under CPO warranty.
The most expensive problem you will likely face is the mag ride shocks which start to leak at around 7 years irrespective of mileage and are several $k to replace all 4. If the extended warranty covers mag ride, I would definitely get it but most policies do not cover shocks so make sure you get confirmation in writing that the shocks are covered.
The most important thing about any warranty is if your dealer's service department accepts it, and if you are out of town, who else accepts it. Better warranties are honored by dealers and ASE-certified shops. Warranties that list what is NOT covered are better than warranties that list what they do cover. Some warranties have weird exclusions. I had one on my first Mk 1 that was much cheaper than what the dealer offered and the service department had a good relationship with that company. However, in the fine print it said it did not cover any fluids, so if the tranny or master cylinder went out, you had to pay for fluid replacement. It also did not pay for diagnostic fees.
