2012 TTS Soft Top Not Secure Error
Hello All, Please let me know if anyone has a fix for this problem other than replacing the flap motor/sensor PN 8J0959311A for appx $100.
Symptom:
In the morning when I put the top down, the top goes down OK but at the end of the cycle the Yellow SoftTop indicator light stays on and if the switch is continued to be pulled up, it will flash after about 5 seconds passed the normal 10-12 second cycle. I let go and pull up the switch again and the light goes solid yellow. If I push down on the right flap while pulling up the switch again, the light goes out and all is normal.
After my 30 min. drive to work, I put the top up, all normal. When I leave work about 5 or 6 pm, the top goes down as normal (yellow light goes out at normal 10-12 second cycle). All is OK the rest of the day/night putting top up/down many times.
The next morning the symptom returns as above.
I inspected under the flap and found what looks to be an adjustment rod at the motor and tried to adjust in different positions from min to max, but no change.
I have read somewhere that the sensor gets dirty and can be cleaned, but there were no details. I've also read replacing the motor will only solve the problem temporarily.
Does anyone have a permanent fix for this problem, including somehow by-passing the error routine electrically or mechanically? I don't have a VAG COM but can visit my indy mechanic if need be.
The car is awesome otherwise, just this one annoying inconvenience.
Thanks!
