Default AMI / Aux-In Issues

Hi folks. I've had a bit of a search around and I've seen some similar issues to mine on here and other forums but mine seems to be a bit more of a mystery so am hoping somebody might have some suggestions!

I have a 2010 TT with Audi Navigation Plus interface just like this https://goo.gl/images/MgPq8F. There is an aux-in socket in the centre console. Looking inside the glove box, there isn't any apparatus at all for connecting anything - just the airbag defeater lock and that's it. No iPod connector or anything like that.

I connect my phone to the aux-in socket and start something playing on Spotify, making sure the volume is turned up. I've also checked the 3.5mm cable and that is working.

When I go to Source, the AMI option is constantly "Initializing", and there is no separate option to choose the aux-in connection?

I am suspecting that the AMI thing is getting confused because there isn't actually any AMI connection stuff in the glove box at all, but I'm not sure why there isn't an aux-in option in the Source menu?

Any tips massively welcome! Thanks.
