Brake squeal - dealer won't fix it?
Yesterday I took my car in (1.5 years old, ~13,000 miles) because my brakes have had an awful squeal since it got cold in December. The squeal fades away as I drive and the brakes warm up, but returns if the car is parked for even an hour.
I saw threads on here and heard there were TSBs covering this. I told the service rep this and he said he didn't know anything about them. I e-mailed him the two TSB numbers I saw on here and got this response:
"The only TSB that would be applicable to your car is the 2017130, but that is only covered for limited time, 6 months or 6,000 miles. We could try it on your car but it would not be covered by warranty. "
Have other people had better luck getting this fixed with cars more than 6 months / 6,000 miles old?

Have you tried bedding your brakes?
in a safe location, a couple of high speed decelerations by applying the brakes hard (dont set off ESP). It will heat up the brakes and burn off any of the brake pad material that has fused to your rotor. Usually occurs in cold weather as it happened to a couple of my cars in the midwest in winter.

I had something done..but squeel came back...they are reluctant to do anything
I have a reliable repair shop around the corner that will change the pads for me...but I am reluctant to spend 200.00. It seems to go away when the temp is over 50. I will give it a little time and see what happens when the weather gets warmer.

Re: Brake squeal - dealer won't fix it?
We had done a couple Brake squeal conversions on a4/tt's at are dealership on vehicle over 6,000 miles only because we had failed to read the fine print on the 6 month/6000 miles. Well Audi kicked the claims back, and charged the dealership for the repairs.
The reason it happens is because as your brakes wear down the outer edge of the rotor and the outer edge of the brake pad's that don't make complete contact get a sharp edge over time, That edge lightly touching is what makes the squeal. There isn't anything technically wrong with your brake's just normal wear.

That's fine and dandy, but I'd hardly call it "normal wear" since it's NOT normal
Nobody else's car on the road squeals like a Mk2 TT does, especially below 50 degrees. It's downright embarrassing for a "premium" car. In the old days, your brakes wouldn't squeal until your pads were thin and it was time to replace them.
Is Audi not capable of making quiet brake pads? Every other manufacturer seems to have no problem achieving this.
