Possible fuel pump failure?!

Possible fuel pump failure?!
Hi, I'm new to the forum, I purchased a 59 plate TT tdi Quattro coupe at the weekend. It has developed a humming/buzzing noise on idle, which appears to be coming from under the drivers side rear seat, hence fuel tank.
Ive removed the rear seat squab and disconnected the electrical connector on top of the sender unit. The buzzing/restricted sound stops, obviously because there is no power going to it now, confirming for me that it is the in tank pump at fault.
I haven't gone any further than this, does anyone have any more information or has had this happen, before I go out and fit a new sender/pump unit?
I would really appreciate any input or info that anyone has.
Thanks,
Frank

59 plates? Pretty weak, seems the world record is over 100...
