Default Some Newbie Questions

Hey all,

Today I got the sad news that my Cadillac STS V8 has reached the end of its life after 192k miles. So I'm looking ahead and one possibility is the TT or even TTS. For 25-30k I can have a faster, awd car and since the original TT came out I've always admired the looks. And they apparently get half decent gas mileage (has anyone seen 30mpg?)

I had some general questions for any who might be familiar with this car:
1) How is reliability? Am I likely to see ~200k miles in one of these?
2) Any common defects or things to watch out for in a used TT?
3) Is the dealer network good? One downside of the caddy was that the 3 dealers near me were all poorly rated. I ended up taking it to a chevy dealer for major repairs.
4) Anything else you'd tell someone looking to possibly join the ranks of TT ownership?

Thanks in advance!

Read this FAQ https://forums.fourtitude.com/showth...-MK2-TT-a5-FAQ
With the oldest Mk 2's now 10 year old, we are just beginning to see high mileage experience. There are a lot of Mk 1's with 150K and going strong as long as you follow maintenance recommendations.
Gas Mileage depends on speed. Cruise at 50-60 mph and you will get mid 30s. Freeway trips averaging 80 mph will get you high 20s. Freeway trips averaging 100 will get you low 20s.
Like all other brands, dealers are hit and miss.

I've had four TT cars since 2001. My first MKI gave me grins for 180K. The second MKI was just a bridge to my first MKII and my current TTS is what I would have gotten if they had any when I was ready for a MKII. My current '13 TTS has 75K on it and no real issues. The only really costly issues on the TTS had nothing to do with the car and everything to do with mice (twice!). I have run into the issue with worn mag-ride struts, but that is the only real problem I have had.

Check your local dealers. I have had other marques in the past and my only bad dealer experiences were with GM. Ford and Mazda and my current Toyota were ok. But every one is a bit different. I have no problems with my current shop, but I have several to choose from. Some areas the coverage is a bit thin.

As to mileage, it wasn't really a consideration for me, but in my experience if I drive it like I stole it, my Toyota FJ gets better mileage (20-ish, specially in fully manual mode throwing it around on the twistys). Normal driving I see 26-28 (mix of highway and not) and on my long mid-Atlantic roadtrips when he is just cantering along for 12 hours, I can get 30-ish.

Hope that helps!

Like RoadTTriper, I, too am on my 4th TT—Leased all 4 starting in 2000 and bought the last one, a 2012 TTS. Just watch for those magnetic shocks (as I’ve posted before.) It’s a 5K service that needs to be figured in.
