Spares been discussed in detail here, in Fourtitude, and Quattroworld.

On my base TT the tire size is 245/40/18 Tire diameter is 25.72” diameter and 9.65” overall width. Rim is 9” 5x112 with 52mm offset. The diameter and bolt pattern is the same for 19". You have 3 options.

Buy a new or used compact spare from a recent A4. The A4 switched to the same bolt pattern years ago. It is about 7" wide overall (including the rim bulge). They are about $400 new.

There are blow-up compact spares that were developed for an older MB SL that will fit. However, they cost a fortune new and used are worthless because they have a shelf life of about 6 years.

Do what I did and buy an “almost full size" spare for about $200 using a cheap new rim and tire. Options are:
225/50/17 which was a tire option for Euro TTs which has 25.85” diameter and 8.85” overall width, or
205/60/16 25.69” diameter and 8.07” overall width which is what I bought for mine.

The advantage of the almost full size is that it has no mileage restrictions and can be used at freeway speeds (compact spares are not supposed to be driven more than a few hundred miles and not above 50 mph). Also, you can still store stuff inside the rim whereas you can't with the compact spare.

All of these work on the base TT. I don't remember if anyone has actually done a fit check with the TTS since the TTS has larger front brakes. These solutions will still work but for the TTS you may have to use a spacer on the front wheels or do a "double swap" if you get a flat on a front tire. That is, put the spare on the back tire and move the back tire to the flat front tire.

If you think a compact spare is going to fit in your trunk well - it won't. There are some UK forum posts about modifying the trunk but that will not work for North American models since we have a bulge in the well that would have to cut out but is integral to the frame whereas the euro version does not.
