I had a life changing moment the other night. I've been a hard core 3 pedal guy since I got my license almost 35 years ago. I currently drive an e46 m3 and prior to that drove an NSX for 10 years.

I have been shopping for a 6MT 996TT to replace the M3. Then two nights ago a friend of mine took me for a ride in her new 2017 TTS. I was absolutely floored not only at how fast it was, but even more so how quickly it shifted. I've completely changed my mind.

With a budget of mid 40s, I started looking at used TT RS instead but am seeing conflicting info as to whether the S-tronic made it to the US eventually. I realize it was not available initially.

If not, perhaps I settle for a slightly used mk3 TTS, that was still a huge step up from where I am now. I won't be able to afford the new TT RS once released.

Googling for TT RS gives really unreliable results

The Mk 2 TTRS was only sold with a manual tranny in the US. The Mk 3 TTRS is only available with S-tronic. On your budget you can find a low mileage Mk 2 TTRS or Mk3 TTS (which were on only sold as S-tronic). The Mk 3 TTS is significantly better than the Mk 2 TTS.

You can definitely pick up a very solid Mk2 TT RS in your price range. I just bought a 2012 with the 6MT and love it!
