Always in the first week. Freeway driving and something hit the windshield. At first thought is wasn't bad, then noticed the long vertical crack running along the rain sensor blackout.

Ouch! That's a pisser.
Does your insurance cover a new windshield? I have AAA. My recollection is the policy only covers windshield repairs if the deductible (in my case, $1000) is exceeded.
I bought my Saab SportCombi used, in 2011. The rain sensing wipers never worked properly. Finally determined the culprit is an aftermarket windshield. I've been waiting over 8 years for the windshield to be cracked by a rock or other %$!& debris, so I have a good (better) reason to install the correct windshield. No luck. On the other hand, if I had decided to replace the windshield back in 2011, I'd probably be on my 3rd windshield by now.

I had a little strike on my 2008 TT and after years I decided to get it fixed, then got another strike a week later in almost the same spot.

I've had quite a few windshields on my TT's.....My commute is a construction zone that is finally almost done! 2011 TTS-3 counting original, 2015 TTS Comp Pkg-3 counting original, 2018 TTRS not quite 2 years old now and already had to replace the original one. I had State Farm on the first two cars and Progressive on the TTRS. All windshields replaced with "factory Audi glass" and no cost of me at all.

Wow!! I feel your pain Jeffrey. I got a rock chip day one directly in my line of sight driving my allroad home from the dealer, even tho' I left plenty of space around me.
At least with a crack you're likely to get a new windshield (hopefully free via insurance in your state).

Insurance tip. I too had $1,000 deductible for both collision and comprehensive but recently just changed the comprehensive deductible to $0 because of recent windshield damage to find that it only increased my yearly cost by something like $10. Given my history with windshields. that is a deal.

If I'm not mistaken, Florida law says they can't charge you a deductible for a windshield.

California doesn't have a zero deductible law, but mine is only $100. I'm with StateFarm, so already have an appointment with Safelite for Friday, and I've requested OEM Audi glass given the car is so new.
