Default All Weather Tires for 20" Wheels

Most of us I think have a second set of wheels for all weather tires or even winter tires for people in the North Pole. For those of us with limited storage space, the choice may come down to keeping one set of wheels. For those people with the Black Optics package, the TT comes with 20" Wheels. The tire market for 20" wheels having a 30 depth is rather limited and even more limited is the availability of all weather tires. I looked and found zero offerings for winter tires.

The one tire I found for all weather offered for a 20" wheel compatible with a TT is from Toyo.

Toyo Proxus 4/Plus

Toyo Proxes T1R is my all time favorite tire (since circa 2008; although not tried on any of my Audi's). The specific tire model can certainly vary of course as can suitability on a particular vehicle. Case in point I've never had a good Bridgestone tire, but many prefer them, so ...

I wonder how many people tight on space, end up selling their 20" and going for a 19" or 18" where the rims are much cheaper, and the tire selection is a heck of a lot better.

I'm actually thinking of switching back to 19s just because I want a smoother ride. That extra inch of rubber makes a huge difference.

This has been discussed at great length on other forums. I went with Michelin PILOT SPORT A/S 255/35/20 on my stock Black Optic's 20s. I've got some pics over here - check out the last post on this thread.

They don't look anywhere near as good as the 255/30/20 but they are just fine for the Cleveland Winters that I have been driving in all my life.

As far as all-weather for the 20" inch size, good luck finding them, I think you've found basically the only one on the market. Here in LA I use summer's exclusively, so I've stuck with the amazing OEM Yokohama Advan V105's even though they're a bit more expensive than others.

Thanks, I should have found in search with some digging. I am going with a second set of wheels, 19". In DC I am guessing at most 4 months of winter-like driving. So I didn't break the bank. I found a set of wheels/tires for 1800. Too bad the Pilot Sport was out of stock, so I went with the Continentals. The new Bridgestone Potenza has some good reviews too.

Just make sure you keep your outer diameter the same, or your speedo (and odo and MPG etc) will be off. I think most people probably go down to 18-19" for winter tires anyway. Having a 20" with 1" of low profile tire doesn't really make sense in the snow haha

This is from brochure from Pirelli that came with the purchase of the TTS:

"The compounds in these tires will have decreased performance, such as lateral and breaking traction, at temperatures below 45F or when driving on snow or ice. In addition, they will lose flexibility and may develop random surface cracks at very cold temperatures."

"The standard Pirelli tires may be effective in light snow conditions. However, for winter use, you may wish to install winter tires. During winter use, Pirelli strongly recommends the fitment of 4 winter tires."

The walk back on the second line is like a Michael Jackson moon walk.
