Default Audi Phone Charging Cords

Why does Audi offer those super, heavy duty, industrial strength, expensive phone charging cords? What do those $50 cords do that the standard iPhone cord doesn't do?

1. So they can charge more for them
2. Gives Audi $$$ instead of Apple

On the other side of the coin .... the Audi cords, being heavier duty, help to stave off some "my phone doesn't work" service calls where a thinner Apple or even lesser 3rd party cord gets pinched and degrades. Cars are more rolling electronics than vehicles to most operators these days so any reduction in these calls helps to promote the image of a more reliable brand.

Somewhat related, the majority of the cable industry trouble calls are root cause resultant of insufficiently tightened coax connectors, so ....

They also have an interesting articulated plug, but I found that they're too short to be useful for me.

Sales manager told me audi makes them add certain amount of add ons per car and those are the cheapest. Maybe he was bull****ing me.

I got one for free when I got my TTS. Honestly, I prefer a 3ft braided cable over the audi cable. The audi cable has that old telephone cord screw twist to it providing some resistance and I dont see the need for a flexible angled USB connector nor the side angled connection to the apple device. The braided cable is more compact and offers the passenger the option to charge up with something on their lap.

My wish would be that the center console slide cover offered a small gap for a cable to be threaded through so that the compartment could be fully closed. The braided cable almost last the compartment fully close.
