Default Chrome tips after one winter

The chrome tips on my 2018 TTS are pretty full of carbon. The interior ones are really bad. We had a warmer day and I had a chance to go over the car pretty well, but those tips are rough, pitted, can't get the carbon off and are losing the finish when I wipe with a rag and chrome polish.

I had kept them pristine until December, so this is only 4 months of not being able to keep them clean, but they are pretty bad.

What are people using to clean their tips after a winter of build up? I dorve less than 1000 miles in the winter, so I I'm not sure why these are so bad.

P21S Polishing Soap.

(If the chrome plating is really fading away, nothing apart from new tips is going to correct that condition.)

Paul, it is indeed tedious to keep your exhaust tips clean in a northern Winter. Alas just four months of having salt in direct and continuous contact will do much damage given everything else they withstand in use. Hopefully you’re not beyond the point of recovery. But if so aftermarket replacement cost isn’t too steep. There are many good, quick and easy chrome cleaners, so once used you’ll readily know where you stand.

Ol’ school Quick-Glo is one of the best cleaners.

Brasso works very well on chrome, despite its name.

Nas_Toronto and I were having coffee this afternoon and examining the tips on our cars!

Here is my old thread re: TT tips

A diluted application off muriatic acid will remove the carbon, and then follow with good chrome polish. Do not get the acid on surrounding trim!

I got some new 4" beveled Magnaflow tips welded on at a local shop. I hoping with a bit of care, these will stay shiny.

At least you can polish yours. The ceramic is chipping off my Black Optics tips after only 1 winter.

When I was at the dealer today getting my 55000 km maintenance done, there was a 20th anniversary TR with fancy perforated (resonated?) tips
