It"s all about driving pleasure (farhvergnugen). Faster shifting is less important than driver involvement / fun. How much fun is a self-driving car?
Please, if there is an Audi God, bring the standard transmission to the states!

After having driven stick for 3 decades, I can honestly say I have had enough.
When there wasn't so much traffic and stop and go, manual was okay.
Now, there are too many people on the road and those nice open highways are too far to get to.
For me, S-tronic is a god send, and playing with the paddles is a new skill I am ready to embrace.

Thanks for the responses. I am glad I am not the only one who feels manual transmissions are outdated.
For those that do, why do you accept power steering and magnetic ride control?
Heck, why use the Start Button, when a good ol' crank can start her up?

Agreed!!!
I strongly disagree… S-tronic is dull and boring. I have owned several hoping that I would learn to enjoy them. Each time I go back to a manual. For me and many others, there is enjoyment in shifting your own gears with a clutch pedal. BMW knows this and still offers a manual. If Audi eliminates the manual, they are alienating a whole customer base that will look elsewhere.

My last 4 cars were manual so I am a huge fan (Bimmer & Mini's). When I shopped for the TTS I almost bought the M2 (and it would have been manual). The auto trans was the one thing I wished was different when I bought the TT. However, I'm completely over it. I love the car, and I've embraced the automatic. I'm in heavy stop-and-go traffic a lot and I think this has turned out to be a good thing after all.

For me, it depends. A fast sports car with amazing handling...MT, all the way. So I guess check me off for the MT camp for the TT.
However, I had a MT rental in Italy last year, a 4 door diesel Mini One. Severely underpowered and steering and handing were also surprisingly awful. This is the first Mini I've ever driven, but I can't imagine that the US Mini Cooper/Cooper S are the same as the European Mini One. Anyway, with a car like this, MT became really annoying. Especially in traffic.

I had driven manuals exclusively for 30 years until I bought the TT. And I don't think that I could go back now. The DSG is really refined and I'm still amazed how fast it can take the car smoothly through 1-2-3-4 with me barely noticing. That said, I would love to try out a Mk2 TTRS just to see what I'm missing...
