I think upbadging says a lot about a person's character.
Side note, my wife worked at a dealership who took an upbadged car (M badged BMW) on trade and sent it to auction. The new owner discovered the upbading and immediately threatened the dealership with legal action as the car wasn't as advertised, the dealership ended up buying back the car and took a big hit over the issue. The due diligence failure not only cost them money but they almost lost the right to send their cars to this auction. I think upbadging to be somewhat dishonest.

That's the most tacky thing I've ever heard of. Like when people would buy a beat up Subaru WRX, then modify the turbo a little and then put STI badging on it because it's "just as fast". Like OK have fun with your WRX...

okay, here's his argument. the car in question is a MQB AWD Golf Sportwagen. Its built to the nines and he just showed a mid 12s race slip. he put 2 R badges in the oem spots [left rear and front grill] and he feels since the R wagen is unavailable in the states and his car smokes stock R hatches, its all good. i feel there is zero room for upbadging for any reason and am surprised not one person called him out.

In Toronto there's a Facebook group called Torontocarspotting for posting high end and rare car "spots". If anyone spotted that, they would snap a pic and post it. Then the social media masses would eat him alive with mockery.
