Rear Mounted Bike Rack ?

I have sold my original 2000 MK1 TT, and gotten a 2017 MK3.

Has anyone gotten a rear mounted bike rack, or have recommendations?

Mmmm. Personally I'd only consider a roof mount, but that's me.

I hunted for quite a while to find one, but couldn't. I had a similar problem with my b7 S4. In europe, there was a westfalia A4 solution which involved replacing the rear bumper with a steel assembly that had a vertical hidden receiver for the tow hitch assembly. It wouldn't be approved for towing in the US, but I would only have used it for a hitch any how. I didn't do it due to the import cost/difficulty, but considered doing a home grown modification. It was elegant in being completely hidden when not in use. I also saw a handful of Curt installs all of which included drilling through the wheel well, which I didn't want to do.

I just ordered an Audi roof rack (8S8071126), which I hope my trays fit.

I had one custom made. Here is a thread it posted on vwvortex.

Unfortunately I don't have the skills to make it. I had it made by torklift central in Kent, WA back when I used to live in seattle.

Here is a vid of them putting one on a golf r which should be very similar to what they made and installed on my TT.

That hitch design looks sweet. Video music is a little dramatic for loosening and tightening fasteners!

I love the rack.
Is the receiver hitch bolted in place or welded?

About how much did it cost for:
Materials?
Construction cost?
Installation cost?

I hope the fabricator kept the plans/specs.

Its bolted on just like hitch in the golf r youtube vid. Material is steel. I paid $800 for design, fabrication and install. I think it was a bit overpriced but it turned out perfect so im happy. I did ask them if they were planning on making more and they said they didnt think enough people would be interested.
