Golf R has 2 advantages over TTS in my mind
1st its price
2d -its rear seats (even though you should consider different car if rear seats comfort is that important to you)

I did consider Golf R myself but it was an easy decision for me, its a nice car but not in the same league as TT.

Agreed...not in the same league. Case in point: In 2013 I too considered the Golf R but vs a JCW MINI Paceman The JCW got my vote and my $. That was more in the same league. (Golf was still less)

Back seats is another excellent point. If you need a back seat regularly, the TT is not a great choice. Occasionally in a pinch the 2+2 has you covered.
