Default TTRS owners - how's your gas mileage and miles per tank?

My guess is it should be pretty similar to what the RS3 folks are reporting except maybe slightly better because of a little less weight. My feeling is the TT RS and the RS3 can both be pretty efficient in comfort mode or in prolonged highway cruising but, like anything other turbo engine, will be struggling to break 20 mpg in city driving or for anyone with a heavy foot. So, how's your TT RS doing in this regard?

20mpg with 75% city 25% highway. 26mpg when 75% highway 25% city. Keep in mind I'm in TX and the highway miles are 70-85mph, and I drive on the spirited side of the spectrum.

I'll get 29-33mpg with pure highway miles at 75mph using cruise control every time.

The above is using auto mode. Very different picture on dynamic.

Thank you, I appreciate that. It is about what I expected and by no means poor for a car with such excellent performance. Over in the Macan forums owners have reported as low as 13 -14 mpg with spirited, mostly city driving and as much as I like that vehicle I am trying to avoid those types of numbers.

My experience is pretty much the same. In Houston, I have an 8 mile commute from the Museum District to The Galleria area - nonstop, 15 minutes at 5:00 am; bumper-to-bumper 45 minute crawl at 5:30 pm where I average 21 -22 mpg.

Put it in Dynamic, and those numbers must go down by 50%! The car absolutely comes alive, but it gulps fuel. Worth every penny of it.

With about 7800 miles on my TT-RS I'm getting 27 MPG with 70% highway and 30% city in comfort mode and not in sport mode.

Let's be careful here and say the mileage is reduced "with the engine/transmission in sport mode", which is what Dynamic initially does. Nothing else in dynamic would cause a drop in MPG (if anything opening up the exhaust should help it).

You sure about that? Throttle sensitivity, front wheel/rear wheel bias, etc seem like they would impact mileage.

Way too many variables to compare accurately but for wiw.. 1 month old TTRS 80% Dynamic mode with 60/40% Sport/Drive on the trans. 2.6bar front 2.4bar rear tyre pressures. 100k (60 mile) daily commute avge speed 54 kph (33 Mph) involves gridlock to 100Kph (60 mph) in between thrashing the Sh*t out of it whenever safe.

Current avge consumption since new 10.6 l/ 100klm's or 22.2 Mpg ... on the commute i'm getting @ 9.l/100k's or 26 Mpg .. Cruise on, level road, comfort and trans in drive, speed 100k's or 60mph I'll see @ 6l/100 40Mpg ..

But realy ... I say F**k it .. Drive it like you stole it .. fill when empty. If you care buy a Prius.

Good info! I would expect mpg to vary greatly depending on how you drive these cars and what mode you hang out in. The 5 cylinder seems like its capable of pretty good efficiency if you have a light foot and are just cruising but it also has a big turbo and various bits that can turn it into a fuel devouring animal, which of course is where all the fun lies.

Throttle sensitivity or rather mapping is also wholly controlled by D vs S. Try putting it in Dynamic and then pull the shifter back to D and the throttle mapping is the same. (Plus most cars with a "sport" mode just map more power lower on the throttle so it feels faster, which is nothing but a gimmick).

Regarding quattro, there's a ton of misinformation out there, largely fueled by Audi's marketing and lots of blog posts about this. Your haldex quattro system is always sending about 10-15% torque to the rear wheels. 99.9% of the time you're driving, this is the case. If there is a difference in rotation between the front and and rear wheels, quattro MECHANICALLY locks the rear's to the front, giving it a 50-50 torque split, for a few seconds at a time. The mechanical aspect is great because it can do this in less than a rotation, and with no processing lag time. The computer can also preemptively lock (or pre-charge) the clutch, based on things like aggressive cornering or wheel speed sensor inputs (aka "hey he's cornering hard, he might need AWD soon"). Quattro can NOT send more power to the rear wheels than the front (despite the ridiculous marketing that says this might be possible in dynamic with traction control off), nor can it lock for more than a few seconds at a time. Dynamic will make it more likely to preemptively lock, or will cause it to do this sooner, but it's still only with aggressive maneuvering and for a few seconds at a time. So yes, in dynamic you may see a few extra instances of quattro locking for a few seconds, but this is not going to make much of a difference in fuel economy, if at all.

The rest of the ADS settings basically give you a stiffer and louder car.
