Default A weekend with a Unitronic stage 2 ECU/TCU tune

My 2016 TT went Unitronic Stage 1+ ECU/TCU at 8,000 km (5,000 mi). Other than topping up oil, there has been no service history to speak about (except five or six visits for the notorious seat clips). I was very happy with Stage 1, I fill up with Sunoco 94 and enjoy the midrange boost. My best mileage was on a trip from Toronto to Princeton, 550 miles at 33.4 mpg. I thought Stage 1 was enough, I really did. And then there was a Unitronic Black Friday sale and oh well...

The car is definitely growlier and louder in the bottom end. After the first day, I thought what I have done, it's so loud, and contemplated another resonator. But after a few days, the sound mellowed and it's really only loud on a cold start. And it is quite cold in Toronto right now. Once the car warms up, it's quiet cruising on the streets unless you mash the throttle and the beast is unleashed. Turbo lag hasn't disappeared completely but things happen with a definite and gratifying immediacy. In D mode, the car is a lot of fun under any circumstance. A highway cruising experiment at 80 mph is not annoying and drone-y. In S-mode, you can get the car to emit some very loud DSG farts. I will turn off my soundaktor soon, it's not needed in S mode anymore. My ECU doesn't support the overrun file by Unitronic so I don't get any snap crackle pops although I don't think I would install it anyways.

I made a video of the stage 1 and stage 2 cold start. I probably should have waited a few more days because the downpipe was barely a day old and it "clangy-ness" perhaps has mellowed out. Or I have become used to it. Yes, my exhaust tips are nasty.

I haven't got the car dyno'd so I can only go by what Unitronic says. I believe that stage 2 approaches the torque limit of the DSG.

I can only imagine how bonkers it is to drive a at 500 hp stage 1 TT-RS.

For the record, it’s awesome. End of my CPO can’t come soon enough.
