The Who Knows thread about mods

I will never understand chippy comments when someone presents a well thought out post. He gives me exactly what I was looking for. Hard data with experience to back it up. There is NO guarantee on any mod. I realize that. But at least with more info I can make a decision that at least has some merit to it. These are awesome cars that are a privilege to own. Why must some post unfriendly remarks?
id be doing you wrong if i put my arm around you and whispered in your ear how AWESOME stage 2 is. psssst, its awesome.
good luck.

[QUOTE=ourlee;25169636]was this directed at me? if so, im not being chippy. the first thing you should know if youre new to modding VAG cars is youll void your warranty if you tune the ecu. its black and white. even an APR approved Audi dealer wont help you. and i assume no one here sweats a turbo replacement [i dont] what i do sweat, and you may not, is a 5 figure motor replacement if the turbo feeds itself to the engine. i know what a new gti engine costs, i cant even fathom what a TTRS 5 pot costs. you should probably find out. also, the RS cars have a brand new [under tested?] 7 speed. if you tune and wreck the clutch packs, youre SOL regardless of your "relationship" with the dealer. in the case of VW, Germany looks at the ecu on big ticket warranty costs. my understanding is Audi is WAY more militant than VW. jb4 for the win. great company, fantastic customer service.

good info. I would definitely sweat a five figure engine repair . Yes for the record your second comment seemed to chippy to me but that’s the problem with reading messages when you don’t know how it was intended. Mostly my comment was directed towards the person who called me out on the figures that I was using as a basis for the stage one. I have done some research so I know what each car can actually achieve in real world tests. After seeing the results from another member who has been there and done that it turns out the figures that I was quoting were pretty darn close, I did not intend to imply that a stage one would make my car and RS from front to back. But the results are noteworthy. In the end I need to think about this more. Blowing an engine and causing a huge repair bill would not be good. Just because we can afford something does not mean that it was wise. I have read some high estimates for a major repair. The car is awesome as is but the gear head in me would love to have deceptive speed with a tune. I will research JB4 for certain as well. Sorry if I misread your comments. You have offered some very solid insight

With due respect, it is not 'black and white' according to the folks at AoA responsible such stuff. Please read the second post of this thread by me because i went to the horse's mouth to get a really authoritative answer on this question.

honestly if youre telling new guys on here that ecu/tcu tunes dont end your warranty, youre leading them to ruin. you need to chat in person with your district service rep. my local guy told me to my face a downpipe would void my warranty front to back. "youre adding power, therefore adding strain to the entire powertrain etcetcetc" as for A of A making yes or no warranty calls, i highly doubt it. but you have me curious so im going to find out.
if one really wants to see a real sample size of warranty/tune heartbreak, read the VW forums. this TT group of modded cars is WAY too small to get real info. FYI TTS = Golf R

tuning your ECU/TCM is basically a guaranteed voided warranty . Even if the dealer is friendly, the manufacture wont be. The magnuson-moss warranty act can be leveraged in depending on the failure, but be prepared for a long drawn out and expensive lawsuit.
