Default Yet more MMI connection issues

OK so tonight the USB connection to my iPhone started dropping randomly. I get an error message saying "the power supply to the device is not compatible" or some such. Any ideas what this might be? The connection used to be rock solid (if slow to initiate). I tried to switch to a pure bluetooth connection but the stupid connection manager doesn't let you choose- it just picks the USB cable over the BT every time. Has anyone run into this?

I used to have this problem on another car and it ended up being the cable. Have you tried alternate cable?

incredibly, I am fresh out of iPhone cables at this moment. I am planning to pick one up tomorrow to determine if it is indeed a cable issue. I will probably invest in one of those kevlar cables since I don't trust the standard ones in cars.

The iPhone 7+ is just too big for the smartphone space. The phone ends up being angled with the lightning connector resting on the edge. I'm hoping the iPhone 8+ ends up fitting.
