Funny, I've been getting the same error message when I'm using it too( the hex-can key) on any of the VW's i've worked on or my 01 allroad.... I haven't checked it with my A8 yet.

I'm gonna check the new cable that Andy sent me tomorrow. Haven't had a chance yet. The Ross Tech guys (Andy) was really good about getting me the replacement cable really fast. Hopefully it'll all work out.

It's working now with new cable
Just an update. Thank to Andy at Ross-Tech for helping me out. The new cable that you guys sent worked perfect. Had no problems with the Q7, A6 or my BRAND NEW A5 THAT CAME TODAY!!<ul><li><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/acompofelice/AudiStuff">A5 Pics</a></li></ul>
