A5 "Can't communicate with CAN bus" per dealer. Any ideas?

A5 "Can't communicate with CAN bus" per dealer. Any ideas?
Took the A5 in for 5K service, told them to check side assist (since it went out a few times).
They said they can't get the VAG to communicate with the CAN bus. They have to contact some central AoA maintenance division because they have no clue what's going on.
Has anyone else heard of something like this?

What version of VAG-COM did they use? If it was not version 805, their install probably will not communicate. The A5 has a lot of new stuff happening in it's diagnostics that are only handled in version 805.
