auto level headlights
I don't know if this is in the correct area or not, it's the closest I could find to headlight issues.
We bought a used 1998 A6 a few months ago. The headlights are powered by HID ballasts but they do not do an auto level cycle or test when lights are turned on or when nthe key is turned on. Are they supposed to? This has me scratching my head. Also there is no levwl compensating dial on the headlight switch like I've seen on other cars. Am I missing something? Am I supposed to have halogen bulbs instead?

older car, maybe it won't have that feature. Look in the drivers side front and rear wheel wells and see if you can spot the autolevelling sensors, if not then you don't have it. Also good to read the owners manual, it should mention it.

I did read the owner's manual, it mentions that it may be equipped with hid lamps but gives no other information about it. Very frustrating. Do you happen to have a picture of what I am looking for inside the wheel well? I know what air bag leveling sensors look like on a Ford explorer, do the sensors for the headlight system look similar?
