If I clear a fault code using a vagcom without repairing the actual fault, will the fault code reappear at a later stage?

Additionally, will clearing a fault code, clear the check engine management system light on the dashboard?

When ECU has no actual fault codes, the CEL/MIL will go off. Faults that havn't been fixed come back
