code 18017, crash - shut down.

Default code 18017, crash - shut down.
A few days ago I'm driving along and the car dies and the flashers go off. I hook up the Vag-Com and pull the codes and I have 18017. I procede to remove the airbag controler becasue I figured it was malfunctioning and signalling the car to cut fuel. Same problem and I still get code 18017.

Is there another crash sensor I dont know about?
Any help would be appreciated.
