Complete ECU replacement and programming
So this is my first port here and its a tale of woe.
I have a 2010 Q7 3.6L. It is a great car, When I saw it, I fell in love and had it shipped to me on a tiny little island in the Caribbean.
I read that there have been more than a few problems with Q7 ECUs but I have had lots of cars, Q5, Mercedes, BMWs and never had a problem so I took the risk. We don't have an audi dealership here.
BIG MISTAKE!! HUGE MISTAKE!!
After a particularly heavy rainstorm and hitting a large pot hole my car started to display random errors. If I turned the engine off and back on then the problem would clear itself.
I took it to a local car technician and within 5 minutes I knew that the guy didn't have a clue what he was doing. He prised the top bung off and started roughly wriggling a screw driver around in the whole trying to find a "reset button". I told him that he was probably damaging the circuit board and asked him to stop. Unknown to me, he did not replace the top bung when he refitted the unit and when i checked it was literally full of water, probably 1/2 pint of water came out of it.
I sent the ECU over to the states to a company that offered to repair the ECU but they have told me that it is beyond repair. There is a company in the UK that can sell a reconditioned unit with a plug and play service but only if they can read the info. I don't know if they will be able to recover any information from the damaged ECU and it will cost hundreds of dollars to find out.
So, my questions....
1) If the ECU is damaged beyond repair is it possible that there is still some information stored in the system and is retrievable?
2) We have NO Audi Technicians or VAG system on the island and with quarantine lock downs I cannot get one to travel to the island, so is there a system that I can buy or rent and a suitably qualified guy available who can talk me through setting it up? The solution offered by the Audi dealership in the Caribbean is to ship my car to them. This would cost thousands.
It's been 5 months without a car and I'm getting desperate.
