Do USB-Serial adapters and/or Vista work with VAG-COM software?

I have an older OBD2? cable with the serial interface and licensed software from Ross-Tech.

I just ordered a new MacBook. Of course the Mac doesn't have a serial port (like most modern laptops). I'm wondering if anyone has used a 3rd party USB to serial adapter with success. I've heard that sometimes these work and sometimes not depending on the software application. I ordered a copy of Vista with the MacBook but I'm not sure if that is compatible either?

USB-Serial Converters are not recommended and the shareware is not Vista compatible

The shareware packages are not Vista compatible. They were released 4 to 5 years ago before Vista was out. We will not go back and make old releases compatible. Others have made things work under "Windows Compatibility" mode. I suggest you surf some other forums for more info of how to do this.

As to the USB-Serial converters, we do not support them because they do not work with all modules on all cars. Modules that have very fussy communication timing will not work with the converter.
