Does VAG-COM HEX+CAN work with Audi 2018 Q5?
I did a search before posting this.
I ordered a new Audi Q5 2018 and have my Ross-Tech HEX+CAN cable. I want to know if I can still use this or not? I understand its slower and that is fine. The latest software VCDS I installed and it recognizes the interface/cable.
Speaking with Ross-Tech of course they want me to upgrade to limit the number of vehicles I can use this cable on. Which is all fine and good, but this is my third Audi and if I were under those restrictions with the lowest cost then this would be my last registered VIN.
Anyways, back to my original question. Does anyone know if this older cable will still work with the new 2018 Audi Q5?
Thank you in advance.

Feel free to run an AutoScan on it with your HEX+CAN and email it to support@ross-tech.com so we can see which modules you are unable to communicate with. It may work for some modules but likely others would only be accessible with a HEX-NET or a HEX-V2.

I quickly sold my old HEX+CAN cable on eBay for $200 to turn around and purchase the newer V2 cable limited to 3 VIN registrations for $200.
I feel somewhat cheated here to be honest. My older cable did not have these restrictions and I don't fully understand why it's not backwards compatible? Simply put it just doesn't feel fair.

You are actually wanting the cable (HEX+CAN)to be "forwards" compatible, which is a practical impossibility, unless Audi were a subsidiary of Ross, even then foreseeing the future is difficult.
In same boat, actually got 360+ for unlimited HEX+CAN online sale, new V2 only $200, winner I think.

Fair enough, I agree very hard to be forward compatible.
I sold my old one on eBay for $200 and got the newest one (3 vin) for $200.
I saw I can upgrade in the future to 10 vin for $169, but can I then upgrade again to unlimited for another $169?
