Curious how you guys started with vag com? Download/Pay Ross Tech license? Been searching forums and haven't seen any results. Basically where im getting at is the license subscription fee $$$ seems absurd just to do software mods. lol

Wondering if theres any alternative free ways or cheaper.

Go for the Ross Tech 3 VIN license - it is $199 and includes a real cable (not an Asian rip-off!) $299 gets the same stuff for 10 VINs.

I got started with VCDS by reading the manual - AutoScan is the best place to start, since that is likely the capability you will exercise first, reviewing the relevant parts of the Wiki as I need them, and using a thread of "known to work" tweaks on my DD like that started by sciblades over on Az: C7 A6/A7 & S6/S& VAG COM list and help.

This goes on for 55 pages. rlarsen frequently posts (and answers questions) there. He is something of a retrofit/tweak specialist and well worth a read.
