Problem A3 Engine ECU

I am trying to acces the engine ECU on a european 1.8 A3 1996 I get the following message

UNKNOWN PROTOCOL KEYWORD CO8A

I am using a serial port interface with Ross-Tech version 311-2.N
Cany any one help

What kind of "Serial Port Interface"?

Does it have anything written on it?

Where did you buy it?

What engine is in this car?

The interface is a home built item which is commonly dispalyed on the internet. It has been used with other VW ie 1995 Mk3 Golf GTI without much problem.

The engine in the car is an early non turbo 1.8 20V unit 1996.

Any help apreciated

Different controllers in different cars have different sensitivity to flaky/shoddy hardware. :-P

I'd suggest contacting whomever you bought it from, and ask them why it isn't working.
