Default Ross-Tech / VAG-COM or the Schwaben VAG

Hello
I searched around and did not see a specific question about this yet..

Anyones thoughts about what one is the better?

Ross-Tech, or the VAG-COM, or finally the Schwaben VAG??

I am in line to buy some "tool" so I can fix my Allroad myself..
Tired of expensive, "knowstheall", but truly knows crap, just taking my money..

I have an Allroad 2001, first gear does not engage and scrappy LCD display, AIR suspension lights on, engine light..
But thats all!

Let me know Your thoughts on what to buy..
I want it not only for this rig, but for more VW/AUDI's

I never heard of the Schwaben VAG. but wow, much cheaper.

Does it have a life time warranty on the unit? I did not see it looking at the specs. My concern would be that over the long haul. If the Schwaben VAG breaks do they replace it.

The Ross Tech software can be downloaded and installed on a windows laptop. So if your laptop breaks just get another and keep going. Plus unlimited software updates.
Schwaben VAG only allows 18 months of updates. Again thinking for the long haul.

Just my thinking, because I always seem to be the exception to the norm.

I agree go vag com for the long haul.
Yep need windows, but I got a cheap laptop off of craigslist for 30 bucks. No sound but everything else works and battery holds great charge.
It is dedicated for Audi and Vag-COM and keep in the back of my car in case i get a code that needs checked.

I figure that a $30 laptop is pretty much throw away and there are more where that came from.

I read about the Schwaben Vag...you can get them at ECS Tuning..ask for Jason there. He can walk you through the real differences. I've heard it does everything the VW VAG COM scanners can do....

Hi again
So I came down for at least my personal choice/choices: Ross-Tech or VAG-COM
The other can probably be just fine..but for me, one of these seems like a reliable tool

What one had You choose?
Ross-Tech or VAG-COM? Coffee or tea? Chevy or Ford? Apple or pears? MAC or PC?
No seriously.. Ross-Tech or VAG-COM, pros and cons, I really would like to hear from your people who owns or use one of these, please?

Thank You

VAG-COM was the original name Ross-Tech released our product under in 2000. In 2006, VAG ptiched a hissy fit over our use of the letters VAG. We changed our product name to VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System). So, Ross-Tech or VAG-COM? We are one!

Oh!? Thank You! I had no idea!

Well, that makes it easier! hehe

Ok, so then I can ask You something about what one could be good for me..
I have only MAC's in my home, is any Ross-Tech usable with that?
And I have no shop, thu I want to be able to use it for different vehicles (Audi/VW)

So, what one do You think I "need", compare to price?

VCDS License with HEX-NET (WiFi/USB) Unlimited VINs (all VAG)?

VCDS License with HEX-USB+CAN Unlimted VIN (All VAG)?

VCDS License with Micro-CAN Unlimited VIN (most VW '05.5 to current)?

Thank You

I like Your idea/use of a "throwaway" laptop in the back of the car!
Always handy
