Default Vag-Com Interface selection Help, Please...long

I am getting ready to order the Vag-com from Ross-Tech but I am having a little confusion over the choice. I read the site, talked briefly on the phone with them, but did not ask the follow up questions to clarify this:

"With a Serial interface: We recommend at least a 100 MHz Pentium (or AMD equivalent) with 16MB of RAM and Windows 95 or newer. Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP are all fine.

With a USB interface: We recommend at least a 500 MHz Pentium-3 (or AMD equivalent) with 64MB of RAM and Windows 98 or newer. USB interface work best with Windows XP on a 1 GHz or faster PC. USB interfaces will not work at all with Windows 95 or NT4.

VAG-COM may work on some lesser PC's, but anything less than the above recommendations are "unsupported" meaning if it doesn't work, please don't ask us for help."

Here is what I have:
2002 A4 1.8TQM, GIAC stage 1
2001 Dell Inspiron 3800, Celeron 650MHz, 128mb,
both serial and USB 1.1 port.
Now, I will be buying a new laptop this winter and they only come with USB port, no serial.
Will my current laptop work with USB interface as that interface seems as logical choice due future laptop purchase.
If it does work will it work completely or it will not do all the functions as intended.
I would like to buy it soon, use it with this laptop and continue onto the new one this winter.
Thanks.

I'd go for USB... haven't had any problems with it and I run it on my laptop underclocked (500Mhz)

Same suggestion, your Inspiron should handle the USB right - used it with a 500 MHz Celeron.
